History of the World Wide Web

The World Wide Web is the tool we most frequently use to browse the Internet. Despite this, many people confuse the World Wide Web with the Internet itself. The WWW functions over the Internet in a similar way as Email. In 1989 A British scientist named Sir Tim Berners-Lee invented the WWW while working at CERN. Initially, early adopters of the WWW were mostly limited to Universities and other research centers. However, it didn't take long for the WWW to evolve into the widely adopted service we use today. While in 1993 there were only 500 public servers, that number ballooned into 10,000 public serves just a year later. Today, there are over 80,000,000 public servers and over 3.2 billion users, nearly half the global population.
