Cord-Cutting

Cord-cutting is the term used to refer to the growing trend of abandoning traditional television. It refers to “cable” TV, hence, “cord cutting.” Cord Cutters are incentivized to ditch their expensive cable packages for alternate methods, namely online video streaming. Cable prices have risen 131% from 1998-2013, which makes platforms like Hulu ($5.99), Disney+ ($6.99),  and Netflix ($12.99) more attractive. So far an estimated 39 million Americans have “Cut the Cord,” are cable companies are on a downward trend because of it. While this does create a loss of jobs, I doubt anybody seriously cares about the well-being of the cable industry. Hopefully the rise of streaming services will create a competitive and more fair market than cable.
